Tomorrow, we are boarding a plane bound for Hawaii. There was a major earthquake in Chile and a tsunami threatened to cancel our BIG trip to Hawaii. Thankfully the warning was just that and all is well.
Since we are traveling by plane I thought I would take the opportunity to share with you an article about the recent report by Green America on the state of recycling and airlines. It is not a very pretty picture. The highest grade was a B- going to Delta and Virgin America and the worst grades (F) went to United and US Airways. I make it a point to travel with my stainless steel water bottle (empty through security and filled at a waterfountain on the other side) so I can avoid those noxious plastic cups. For "sanitary" reasons most airline attendents even refuse to refill the same plastic cup. It makes me crazy so I have become a pro at avoiding the "free now, planet pays later" liquid on flights. UPDATE: We flew Alaska who was not rated in the above report but I did see the attendants sorting bottles, cans and cardboard (from those waste heavy snack boxes) which warmed my heart. Next time I fly I will be sure to complete this form to help Green America stay informed on this topic.
