The idea for All Natural Dog grew out of a personal challenge. Mary's dog, Noita, became bald on her belly and the underside of her neck. Mary experimented with natural fabrics comparing them to the synthetic beds she already had. She learned that while many pet beds are marketed as 'eco-friendly', they are not necessarily made with natural or organic materials. Also, considering the load of chemicals used to produce 'natural' conventional cotton, she eventually chose to use organic fabrics only and a business was born. The decision to go purely with organic fabrics sets All Natural Dog apart from the vast majority of pet bed manufacturers.
To quote Mary, "Designing our ultimate 'Sleep In Bed' (pictured above) was challenging and fun. It took a few years and several iterations to combine comfort, beauty and easy laundering, with an efficient sewing pattern. Our dogs (and friends' dogs) sampled every version we made, laundered, improved, and assessed over time for durability. Dogs do, after all, spend at least half of their life in bed. Happily, along the way, our little girl also grew a full body of fur!" It is so refreshing to see a challenge turn into not only a healing for one pup but a business that blesses many. Thank you Mary, for choosing to use Harmony Art organic fabrics. |
